About the Show
Welcome to the Cincinnati Parks Krohn Conservatory 2017 Butterfly Show, The Majestic Monarch! Purchase your Butterfly Show Field Journal and flutter along with us and our imaginary character “Mona” through the Krohn showroom resembling fields and forests that “Mona” and her Monarch friends would likely visit on their long journey across North Americas. Experience what it’s like to be a butterfly surrounded by towering fir trees, giant flowers, and islands of color as you fly by beautiful hydrangeas, marvelous marigolds, and gorgeous celosia.
Citizen Scientists Rule! While you’re drifting through the showroom, discover ways to attract butterflies to your own garden by watching them enjoy a variety of feeding stations. Use your butterfly landing pad to make observations about how butterflies feed. Near our Information Station, you will find three butterfly feeders with different colors of nectar in them. Simply record which color more butterflies are feeding at and drop it in our Data Collection Box. As you leave look around our butterfly garden and observe which flowers the butterflies are more attracted to. Is it color, shape, or scent that the butterflies are attracted to? Our butterfly landing pads are scented with jasmine this year. Do you think the butterflies like this? Help us spread the word about the importance of creating and preserving butterfly habitats in hopes of saving butterflies like Mona and her Monarch friends. Many exciting events have been planned throughout the 12-week show to allow visitors to discover even more about the Majestic Monarch and their impact on the world. .
